i've been thinking about it lately. i kind of want a few tiny ones but what if i don't like it someday? do you have a tattoo? do you ever regret it?
(when i was in school, i got my nose pierced and i regret it now coz i have a hole in my nose that looks like a big pore. )

Hi Jeana,
No I don't have a tattoo but one of the loveliest I've seen was a small feather, floating right underneath the ear on a woman.
Please don't do it. I found your blog yesterday
and I got so inspired. You are so beautfil you don't even need a tatoo. Of course it has a meaning for some people but the day will come when you won't like your tatoo anymore, believe me. Hope you'll make the right dicision for yourself. Good luck ((:
It took me so long to decide what to get and after never thinking I would ever in my life get a tattoo, I took the plunge. I have a feather on my left arm and I love it. However, having one will almost instantly cause you to want more. I try to always have a set image or idea before going in. Not just picking from a poster all willy-nilly. The smallest, simplest tattoos are so lovely. (I certainly don't regret mine.)
Hi! I like tattoos, just not on my body. But I have seen many that are lovely I especially like the tattoos, which are lightly drawn on...such a big commitment! I am sure with your aesthetic you will pick a tattoo that I will envy.
I don't regret mine ever. The key is to get something that actually means something to you and not just something you think looks cool or cute. All my tattoos have a connection to my family name or history. This sounds morbid, but I love each of my tats more as I start losing family members to old age.
I never bought the argument that tats will look ridiculous when you're 80. If I saw a woman in her 80s with one, I'd still think it looked cool.
debating the same question right this moment. love the examples you picked. i say go for it. now, if i can only convince myself...
a couple of years ago, i got the word 'peace' on my wrist, in my own handwriting. the more time that went on, i discovered i liked it less and less. but now that i'm married, my husband's last name has made my initials W.A.R. so, i love it again, because even though i am W.A.R., i have peace. (cheesy?)
but in all honesty, i'm so glad i have it, and i do plan on getting a few more. someone once said to me, "draw out what you want to get, and put it in a place where you see it everyday. if you don't get sick of looking at it after six months, you should get it." i didn't do this - i probably should have - but maybe it would be helpful to you?
i have one and i regret it big time! i got it before i ahd any sense at all, at age 19. now i am a professional therapist and alwys find myself trying to cover it up and hide it.
I have been asking this question of myself for years!
I think it depends on what you get and whether it has any special meaning for you. If you have a tattoo which reminds you of a certain person, or a certain time then you're unlikely to regret it.
However if you get something random just because you like the look of it, you're more likely to lose interest.
If you don't have a specific 'meaning' behind a tattoo and just want one because some of them are gorgeous, try the 'test of time' - choose a design and come back in 6 months or a year. If you still love it, then get it. :)
I don't have one, but every so often I go through the same dilemma. Not sure if I'll ever go through with it. But I agree with some of the other commenters, if you get one that really means something to you, it's doubtful you'd regret it too much.
And wow, I love that feather tattoo!
YES! get one...and I agree w/what's already been said, that once you get one you'll want more...I have one tattoo that I kind of already regret--got that one a few months back--but I didn't put much planning into it and it's totally random...aside from that, I love my other ones...and having gotten my first tattoo w/in the past few years, I totally understand the initial need to pick one that symbolizes you/means something for your first...but if you get a couple, I think it lessens the stress of the first one being perfect...and I'm all about having a bunch of small tats...they're cuter that way
In the past I had also debated about getting a tattoo, but one that was small and on my hip so that it would only be visible to me and have even more meaning. But then I thought more about it and decided not to. Bodies change; we get old, wrinkly, we get fat, we get skinny. Over time that tattoo we thought that was so cute and meaningful would only look vastly different than what we had intended it to be. It's your choice ultimately, but as for me, I have chosen not to.
PS: I also had my nose pierced years ago, and have not worn a stud for about 3 years. My nose has a little hole, but I don't regret having had it pierced at all :)
I once knew a Russian woman who said that men should have tattoos only in places a judge can't see them, and women should have them in places only a lover can see them. I thought that was a good rule of thumb.
i have 4 tattoos, all fairly small and meaningful. the only tattoo i don't really love is the very first one i got when i was 17 - young and foolish, right?? but the others i have mean so much that i could never regret (plus the designs are exactly as i wanted and very simple)
i think tattoos can be an extension of your personality but will never define you as a person. if it's something you truly love, then you will never regret it. :)
ps. i am in a professional environment and have never had anyone comment negatively on my tattoos, in fact when my boss saw the one on my foot in an interview, she thought my "classic yet cutting edge personality" is what people are drawn to.
yet another person weighing in! I have a small tattoo on my foot which I got 13 years ago. It reminds me of living in a specific place (Italy) and time (I was there for one year) and I've never started to dislike it or wish I didn't have it. I wouldn't have one in a place I couldn't cover up though. I've been thinking about getting another one to mark another passage of time and again it would be small and personal to me. The only tattoos I don't like are ones that date when they were done like, oh, I see you got your celtic symbol in 1997! or tribal, early 2000s etc. I'm sure whatever you design for yourself will be beautiful and unique!
Don't. Nothing is cool forever. Fashion is about change. Do henna. :)
you should try just getting a henna tat. Woa...I think i want one, Ive never tried it.
don't do it. if something means a lot to you, than you carry it in your heart and not on your skin. also i know two people who already regret theirs (with a meaning) after 2 and 5 years!
non pas de tatoo please !!!
i'm a huge fan of your blog from belguim
please don't
you don't need it !!think about it
Don't. Just don't. xoHeatherHoney
i wish i could erase the ones i've got. what was meaningful to me years ago does not hold the same magic any longer. i feel
stuck with them.
From someone who has 4 tattoos, my advice is if you have to think too much about it, then you are not ready for one. If you really liked to have one, you would have done it by now! :)
(ps: love your website.)
I miss pure skin. I plan to remove one of my tattoos, but neither of them were very well thought out.
Please don't. You're too beautiful and classy. I find tattoos to be desperate bids for individuality, paradoxically making those who have them look far from individual. I really respect anyone who's young and stylish who has clean, un-tattooed skin. To me it means they have true self-respect.
I go back and forth. I lost my Mom 5 years ago and miss her terribly and sometime think of getting something small and tasteful to honor her, but never seem to do it!
I think the best rule of thumb would be to picture the tattoo on a very old person---'cause eventually that is what you'll have and sometimes that picture aint pretty!
You're gorgeous, though--I wouldn't do it. And doesn't that soemtimes hurt when trying to book modeling jobs?
Debbie
do whatever makes you feel like YOU! xo
i have to comment too since im in the exact same dilemma. I think i have now decided on something. Before i did i started noticing tattoos on other people and thought about how it made me look at them. And for by far the most part it made them more interesting to me. You only have one life. There is no sense in keeping your skin pure for the sake of purity.
i went with a very small one: and just one word, between my shoulders. i love my tattoo and think it is simple and beautiful. i think what i regret is that it's not as universal. i have "templum" written there- and it means "a place set apart for prayer, temple"- and i liked to think of my own body as this. i had the artist elongate the "p" into the symbol for "pax christi" (the peace of Christ). and while i love that too, i don't know. i'm not someone who sees my one faith as the only faith, i guess.
but it's message is clear and i love the message. i would like a second one inside my wrist but not sure what yet.
I am not a fan of tattoo but I really admire the feather! I have to save this page, I want that for summer :)
Cool, I can imagine myself.

I don't really like tatoos. And the horrible way they look when they fade and how black ones tend to turn green...
