Closet Visit : Alicia Lawhon
Alicia Lawhon is a fashion designer (Reclaimed in LA) and stylist who lives and works in Los angeles. She is one of the most creative people I've ever met.

Describe personal style
Present, relaxed, & indulgent.

Who are your favorite designers?
Dries Van Noten
YSL for shoes
Fendi for handbags
I love Brunello Cucinelli's work ethic as he produces locally in Italy where he's from, and in turn gives back to his community.

(Necklaces made by Alicia)
Style Icons:
Joan Ashby (Hal Ashby’s wife) - we became close friends in the 90's. She had a way about her that was simultaneously effortless and stunning, earthy and elegant, with scarlet nails and lips and a platinum bob. She was a force!
Nick Cave. We dated in the early 80’s. He has a uniform that works.
Patti Smith

Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
Yes. The new chiffon Reclaimed in LA tees
My Gray Ant high waisted skinny jeans.
YSL blks heels.
Chanel Blk classic ballet flats.
Small Fendi with long strap handbag.
Leather & wood clutch by Munoz Vrandecic
Melissa Joy Manning ring, that I wear with another gold band with a carat in the center.
Beth Orduna wedding ring.
And my new favorite: My Zoe Crosher ring. It is the first jewelry piece this talented photographer has made. Its raw, and beautiful. White magic at it best!

What is your most recent purchase?
A vintage sliver jacket. I am a magnet of all shinny things.
Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
Yes! I recently purchased a Bottega Veneta bag for $4 & a ysl 70’s tux for $20 that I reclaimed for my friend Simon Storey. And for my husband, I found a butter like Giorgio Armani leather jacket in a pale gray for $5. Just amazing.

Do you keep your old clothes or do you keep your closet small and organized?
I have more than others and less than some, holding onto key designer pieces, especially pieces that flatter me. I must have over 50 dresses by Tree! Plus a small archival Alicia Lawhon collection. Letting go of a Helmut Lang sheer top I bought in the 90’s when Helmut was still designing is something I cannot seem to do - I get sentimental. If I don’t wear it. I promise to pass it on. And yes. It is organized.

Can you give us smart shopping advice?
When shopping in LA, hit Church on Santa Monica Blvd. Epic in Echo Park. Barneys NY. & Opening Ceremony
Shop with a list. Shop with purpose.
Bring cash.
Make sure you organize, color-code & inventory your closet and add or replace. Do not duplicate what you already have - we have a habit of purchasing the same items over and over.
Classic is always best.
Keep in step with items that flatter you, not trends. This seasons wide leg pants are not ideal for small- curvy ones. A great solution is to have a narrow thigh, and have the fullness on the bottom pant leg and couple it with high heels. Brights are not for everyone. But we can accent, with, say, a bright lipstick, Fuchsia shoes, handbags, belts. Pink is a very important color this season, perhaps a good sign that the economy is getting better? Throughout history pink has been the key color that opens the door. And last but most importantly, please stick to personal style.

Which beauty products do you recommend?
Dr. Bronner’s magic peppermint shampoo
Aveda damage remedy conditioner
Dr. Hauschka toned day cream
All Persephenie products. Love the custom scented oils and Nanu Lei bath salts
Desert Essence Jojoba oil
Hugo Naturals lotion
Chanel lipstick

5 things you can’t live without:
Art, Music, Love, Nature, and my Stella McCartney sunglasses.

Thank you for reading.

Craft night
So Joanna and I finally got together and had our first craft night. Even though we were beginners (well,,actually Joanna knew what she was doing) and kept messing up, It was sooooooo much fun!

So many beads and little pretty things.

I made these "simple" necklaces. (One is not pictured. It was my first attempt and kind of messed up.)

Joanna made this gorgeous piece. (I copied her fabric bow trick. ha!) LOVE LOVE LOVE

Closet Visit : Beatrice Valenzuela
Beatrice Valenzuela is a shoe designer and hair stylist (I recently got a haircut from her!). She lives and works in Echo Park in Los angeles with her boyfriend and their adorable daughter Astrid. Her house was under construction so we shot mostly outside this time.

Describe your personal style.
Comfortable and chic with lots of color and little imperfections.

Who are your favorite designers?
I think Isabel Marant dresses women beautifully.
Bernhard Willhelm and Rodarte among many, many others.

These are from Bea's Shoe line.
What's your inspiration when you design shoes?
Shoes from the past usually from indigenous cultures.
What are your favorite places to shop?
IKO IKO
Mameg
Creatures of Comfort
Ooga Booga
South Willard
Tavin
Yard sales
Pasadena Flee Market
Estate sales

Who are your style icons?
Emmanuelle Alt
Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
It's always changing. I like color and interesting shapes. I wear a lot of pants lately for comfort. Bubble baggy pants
are great! For the past year I've been wearing high wasted skirts that I always end up having to secretly unbutton after each meal.

What is your most recent purchase?
A beautiful yellow ERES bikini. Shhhhh, don't tell Ramsey.
I haven't broken the news just yet.

Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
The most recent was a vintage Josepha kaftan from Acapulco, Mexico. I found it at an estate sale in Malibu. There were three of them but I only had enough for one. I still dream about the other two.

Can you give us smart shopping advice?
If you want to get talked out of buying something do not call me.

Which hair and beauty products do you recommend?
It is really great to change all the time. Specially with hair products.
I love Shu Uemura shampoo and conditioner. Davines
Love and Momo and Nou Nou are very nice also.
The Product is a fantastic shea butter finishing pomade. Sea salt spray is my favorite to use when
hair is clean and in need of texture. Aquage makes my favorite. You can make your own by dissolving
1 tlbs of sea salt into 1 cup of distilled water.

5 things you can't live without.
1. A morning latte
2. Astrid's new age dance moves
3. Gossiping with the ladies while loom weaving
4. A good scrubbing from Natura Health Spa
5. Definitely Ramsey, actually he should've been number one on this list

Jewelry designer Sonia Boyajian's studio
Joanna and I visited Jewelry designer Sonia Boyajian's studio in Beachwood In Los angeles last week. Her studio was so magical and full of inspiration. It was a wonderland.
After the studio visit, we walked to a little cafe for lunch. We talked about work, vintage (sonia is a big vintage fan), husbands (we all have musician husbands), babies (!) and the crazy internet world.
Thank you for the inspiration, ladies!

Closet Visit : Sue Tsai
Sue Tsai is a clothing designer and stylist who lives in Los Angeles. She designs and runs a Children's clothing line Nico Nico. She also makes beautiful lingerie.

Describe your personal style.
Eclectic yet simple, I like contrasts. Mixing something classic with something edgy or the mix of masculine pieces paired with the feminine. In general I like things to feel effortless and natural.

Who are your favorite designers?
Margiela,Celine, Dries Van Noten, Acne, Momo Suzuki

What are your favorite places to shop?
In LA- Creatures of comfort, Opening Ceremony, Barney's, Roseark, Zara, AA,

Who are your style icons?
Stylish, confident women. Carine Rotfiled, Jane Birkin, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Giovanna Battaglia, Cecilia Dean.

What's your inspiration when you design kid's clothing?
Movies, books, my travels. Actually I find a lot of inspiration from adult fashion. I don't think children's apparel needs to be dumbed down or overtly cute and sweet just because it's for kids.

Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly?
Chambray shirts, my army jacket, black skinny jeans.
What is your most recent purchase?
My Chanel flats.

Do you have any stories about amazing deals you've gotten on awesome pieces?
My boyfriend and I scoured the Paris Flea Market for just the right vintage Hermes watch. It was in amazing shape, authentic and after a lot of haggling and cold hard cash we got it for waaaay cheaper than the going price.

Do you keep your old clothes or do you keep your closet small and organized?
I hold on to pieces for a few seasons but once I've worn it out, it's gone. I'd say my wardrobe is Medium sized, fairly organized.

Can you give us smart shopping advice?
Keep the receipt...

5 things you can't live without
My boys/ family, great friends, travel, yoga, curiosity.

Thanks for reading!
